Reopening of the Gotthard line planned for 2.7.2012

The SBB rail infrastructure manager in Switzerland has informed that the Gotthard line will be re-opened to the traffic on 2.7.2012 at 22:00 as planned. After four hard weeks due to the closure of the line and to the diversion of the trains to the Lötschberg/Simplon route, the transalpine railway line will be re-opened to traffic also on the Gotthard corridor.

Because of the serious damage caused by the landslide in Gurtnellen, in the first days there could still be some limitations in train operation due to the completion of the repair works in the concerned area.

As the re-opening of the line is foreseen for Monday at 22:00, our train operation programme will still undergo some restrictions. As of 3.7.2012 we will start carrying out the normal train operation of our transalpine network via Switzerland. Our staff in Chiasso is at disposal of our customers for detailed information on the single products.

We thank our customers for the co-operation in these four hard weeks and for the comprehension of the inconveniences caused by this force-majeure natural event. We hope that our efforts made in the emergency management have contributed to reduce the inconveniences and to give an at least partial continuity to the train operation via Switzerland, in consideration of the gravity of the event.
