Terminal operations

Quality and performance for intermodal transhipment

The terminals are the access door to intermodal transport: it is here where containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers start and conclude their trip by train.

Every day our terminals manage dozens of trains and move thousands of intermodal units and railway wagons. This according to a steady logistic flow which outstands thanks to a precise planning work together with the prompt willingness to face irregularities and solve contingencies.

The seven terminals managed by Hupac count on the efficient work of their staff and are supported by a solid organization and plurennial experience. The software GOAL Global Oriented Application for Logistics follows and manages every single element of the terminal process in such a way that the service provided to the customers is valued "very good/good" by 80% of the drivers ("Driver questionnaire", December 2016).

The main facilities are in Busto Arsizio-Gallarate, Singen and Antwerp, but other minor hubs are operating in Aarau, Basel, Chiasso and Piacenza: small but high-performing terminals, thanks to their functionality and quality service.

Safety plays a fundamental role: Hupac’s terminals are namely provided with the latest equipment and technological plants. We work according to procedures and rules that safeguard our staff, our customers and protect the environment.

With the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel and the completion of the Alptransit Hupac is developing together with its partners new terminal capacities, in order to manage 740-m long trains according to the TEN-T parameters:
